 In the Spring of 2007 I realized I was not worm
fishing enough. I pondered the reason and finally discovered that my inferior wormin rod was holding me back.  I went to stores and scoured the Bass Pro Shops catalogs for a rod that fit my needs.  Hours of fruitless searching revealed nothing. I considered having a custom rod built to my exact specifications.  I contacted Tyson Oakes at Oakes Custom Rods in Kansas.  We had numerous phone and email conversations to nail down exactly what I was
looking for in a rod. Being a St. Croix fan, Tyson
and I decided to use a St. Croix Legend Bass blank made from their awesome SC-IV graphite. The process of choosing components was easy and the craftsmanship from Tyson was without compare. I wanted the rod to be as light and sensitive as possible and I asked if Tyson could build it without a foregrip.     Without skipping a beat, Tyson said "no problem" and built my rod.  The entire process was simple and I had my new worm rod in no time at all. I enjoy fishing with my Oakes Custom Rod, and I look forward to adding more of his products to my arsenal in the future.

Tyson made the perfect gift for my father’s birthday.  A custom built “jerk bait special”.

And to top it off Tyson made the colors of the rod match Dad’s boat.  I gave Tyson a few details about type of reel, bait, presentation, and etc.  Then he came up with a great design and delivered it quickly.  My father was very surprised and pleased with the rod.   I will definitely be using Tyson’s services in the future!
